Apparently my genius plan for a Solar Energy Ring, or SER -- which, did I mention, should worshipped as a God? -- calls to mind, at least for one reader of this esteemed blog, the work of German physicist Hermann Oberth. Oberth thought a giant solar collecting disk would work. According to Damn Interesting his concept was appropriated by the Nazis, who planned to use it to create a "diabolical" solar energy weapon.
Oberth seems not to have considered the possibility of Germanium Arsenide mylar as a solar collector or the fact that if no lived on the disk it would not need to spin and create artificial gravity. Also, the SER is a more practical clock.
Anyway, I am off to think about super-secret next generation radar.
