Giant Nazi Sun Gun!

Apparently my genius plan for a Solar Energy Ring, or SER -- which, did I mention, should worshipped as a God? -- calls to mind, at least for one reader of this esteemed blog, the work of German physicist Hermann Oberth. Oberth thought a giant solar collecting disk would work. According to Damn Interesting his concept was appropriated by the Nazis, who planned to use it to create a "diabolical" solar energy weapon.

Oberth seems not to have considered the possibility of Germanium Arsenide mylar as a solar collector or the fact that if no lived on the disk it would not need to spin and create artificial gravity. Also, the SER is a more practical clock.

Anyway, I am off to think about super-secret next generation radar.

Putting the "O" in Obama

With Supertuesday occurring tomorrow, many voters want to know if Obama supports the Ring. No doubt he has a hard battle ahead if he does, what with all the opposition from megacorporations like Raytheon and TI and others in the military-industrial complex. Isn't it time we fought back against their hegemony over satellites? Yes, it's time for a change.

Alien Life Forms Are Invading Antartica!

OMG! OMG! OMG! This reminds me of the famous science fiction story Who Goes There? written by John W. Campbell, Jr. under the pen name "Don A. Stuart." Actually, I never read the story, I just had a big book of science fiction story titles and plot lines which I memorized to impress my friends.

(Actually, I did read the story. The ludicrous idea that I had a "big book of science fiction story titles and plot lines which I memorized to impress my friends" was dreamed up by a friend since I could not remember EVERY LITTLE NIGGLING DETAIL ABOUT A STORY. Not that I am bitter. No. Not bitter.)

Now, of course, we have Wikipedia.

What Wren Wrought

Did Sir Christopher Wren know in advance that a giant Solar Energy Ring should be built around the Earth? His design of St. Paul's Cathedral -- heavily influenced by his work in mathematics and astronomy -- leaves this question unanswered.

Of course, the entire notion that one could be interested simultaneously in architecture and astronomy is, well ... let's just say it ... bizarre.

Did Tolkein Forsee the Ring?

Legolas' Song of the Sea
To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressëaut;a, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!

I don't know what this has to do with anything. (Found here.)

Important SER Developments

Using a mobius style folding at the edge of the ring seems to solve the important problem of keeping the nanobots on one surface of the GARM. Ironical it is, in that the Mobius is twisting is accomplished via a folding and not a ring, but it used to maintain a Ring!

Contact with Old "Friends"

No, not "alien" friends!

I recently received a message from Scott "Scott" Turner, who contacted me through one of those cheesy "keep up with your old friends from college" style networking sites. I've responded but there's no telling if they'll write back -- they being Scott and the medium rare -- i.e. half baked (or less) -- Perry "Mack" Morman. I think they're afraid of my superior brains. It's an old story.

Update: "Scott" did write back and send pictures and what appears to be his real social security number (at least it shows a birth place in Illinois). My God he is old! His children may also not be his.

Kristin Kreuk Has Astronomical Architecture

Okay, this seems completely inappropriate but I thought I should have a post here.
